The poetic beat of the XXI century
His inspiration is the Beat Generation and his struggle to bring poetry to the streets and mix it with the other arts, especially music and performance, in a dynamic and modern exhibition of poetic expression.
Our objectives in the New York edition are:
1. Poetry as a bridge that unites countries, cities, and continents.
The festival brings artists and poets from Spain to the USA. and vice-versa, communicating poetic scenes and showing the new artistic currents from one country to another. It’s about establishing an
exchange that facilitates the flow of artists and organisms in both directions, favoring the union of the scenes in an action that breaks walls and erases borders.
2. The meeting of the two dominant languages in New York, English and Spanish, at its highest level: poetry, in a valorization of Spanish as a cultured language in American society. A society that, traditionally, presupposes the Spanish as a poor language of the lower class. The festival can show the opposite and help improve the opinion of the Spanish language in the USA. We are so proud to bring to NYC the Galician Language too.
3. A vibrant exhibition of the different forms that poetry can adopt: acting, slam, spoken word, contest, or experimental; mixing it with music, painting, visuals, performance or theater. A varied sample of contemporary attitudes seeks in poetry an evolution for the other arts, in an attempt to popularize the poetic act, transforming it -if it is not already- into an attractive show suitable for all audiences.
4. Offer a neutral territory where poetic organisms and agents of the different scenes of the city of New York can meet. Ambitioning a poetic movement in the Big Apple, the union of the city's different schools and poetry currents is required. Historically it has been necessary for an external agent to promote this union. The Kerouac International Festival is postulated to shake the New York poetic scene and contribute to shape the poetic movement of the s. XXI.
Organization:
Culture Lovers, or what is the same, Vanesa Álvarez and Marcos de la Fuente. Two spanish artists settled between Spain and the USA.
Vanesa Álvarez is a graphic designer and muralist. She has made large murals on both sides of the Atlantic and is the director for art and branding of the entire Kerouac Festival.
Marcos de la Fuente is a poet, therapist and cultural activist. Curator of artists and poets, he is the host and conductor of the events, as well as developing his own poetic performances in each of
the editions of the festival.

O Festival Kerouac é un evento internacional que ten lugar en España, na cidade de Vigo, dende hai sete anos, no mes de outubro. En Nova
Iorque vaise celebrar a súa terceira edición, en seis espazos da cidade na primeira semana do mes de abril.
A súa inspiración é a Xeración Beat e a súa loita levar a poesía ás rúas e mesturala con outras artes, en especial música e performance, nunha exposición dinámica e moderna da expresión
poética.
Os seus obxectivos na edición de Nova Iorque son:
1. A poesía como unha ponte que une países, cidades e continentes.
O festival trae artistas e poetas de España os Estados Unidos e viceversa, comunicando esceas poéticas e mostrando as novas correntes artísticas dun país o outro. Trátase de establecer un intercambio
que provoque o fluxo de artistas e organismos en émbolos dous sentidos, favorecendo a unión das esceas nunha acción que rompe paredes e borra fronteiras.
2. A reunión das dúas linguas dominantes en Nova York - inglés e español - no seu máis alto nivel: a poesía, na valorización do español como lingua culta na sociedade estadounidense. Unha sociedade que, tradicionalmente, presupón ao español como lingua pobre da clase baixa. O Festival pode mostrar axudar a mellorar a opinión da lingua española nos EE. UU. Tamén nos sentimos orgullosos e coa responsabilidade de traer a lingua Galega a Nova Iorque.
3. Unha exposición vibrante das diferentes formas que a poesía pode adoptar: actuación, slam, palabra falada, concurso ou experimental; mesturándoa con música, pintura, visual, performance ou teatro. Unha mostra variada de actitude contemporánea que busca na poesía unha evolución para as outras artes, no intento de popularizar o acto poético, transformándoo, se non o é xa, nun show atractivo apto para todos os públicos.
4. Ofrecer un territorio neutral onde poidan reunirse organismos poéticos e axentes das diferentes esceas da cidade de Nova Ioque. Se ambicionamos un novo movemento poético na Gran Mazá, é necesaria a unión das diferentes escolas e correntes de poesía da cidade. Históricamente foi necesario que un axente externo promova esta unión. O Festival Internacional Kerouac postúlase para sacudir a escea poética de Nova Iorque e contribuír a plasmar o movemento poético do seculo XXI.

Culture Lovers, ou o que é o mesmo, Vanesa Álvarez e Marcos de la Fuente. Dous artistas españois instalados entre España e EE. UU.
Vanesa Álvarez é diseñadora gráfica e muralista. Fixo grandes murais en ambos lados do Atlántico e é a responsable da arte e do diseño de marca de todo o Festival Kerouac.
Marcos de la Fuente é poeta, terapeuta e activista cultural. Comisario de artistas e poetas, é o presentador e director dos diferentes eventos, ademais de desenvolver as súas actuacións poéticas e
performances en cada unha das edicións do festival.
